Sam Biegelsen
Sam Biegelsen is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) focused on family financial well-being. Sam serves as Vice-Chair of the Colorado Credit Union (CCU) Board of Directors and is an active member of the Finance and HR Committees. He is a dedicated leader who brings over three decades of financial expertise, governance, and community service to CCU. As Vice-Chair, he provides vital leadership in enterprise strategy and financial regulatory compliance, ensuring the organization remains financially sound while robustly focused on engaging and delighting members.
Prior to his current tenure, Sam was the Board Chair for White Crown Federal Credit Union. There, he championed the 2022 merger with CCU—a strategic move that secured long-term stability for the collective membership. This effort reflects Sam's long-standing advocacy for the credit union movement, which was first kindled in 1985 when he joined the Denver Post Employee Credit Union and fueled in 1994 when he was elected to the Board of Directors and Treasurer for Denver Media Credit Union.
Beyond his executive leadership, Sam provides the business and financial acumen developed through senior-level roles at Jeppesen (Boeing) and as Financial Planning Manager and Production Administration Manager at the Denver Post. By combining this deep professional background with a "people always first" philosophy, Sam remains dedicated to driving the strategic innovation and transparency that will ensure Colorado Credit Union serves its members and the local community for generations to come.
Clint Blackhurst
Clint has served on the Board of Directors for Colorado Credit over 12 years (previously for the Brighton Federal Credit Union for six years). Clint is a member the CCU Audit Committee. Clint has a BA from Metro State University and a Master’s of Public Administration from the University of Colorado. He had a career of over 47 years in law enforcement, retiring in 2017 as the Chief of Police in Brighton.
He currently serves as a City Council person for the City of Brighton. Clint’s other volunteer activities are: President of his Home Owners Association, member of the Fulton Ditch Board of Directors, President of the Adams County E-911 Authority Board, served on the 27-J School District Blue Ribbon Advisory Committee, and has served on the Brighton Urban Renewal Authority Board. Clint enjoys golf, hunting and outdoor activity. He has lived in Brighton since 1985.
Roland Carrillo
Roland was appointed as an Associate Board member for Colorado Credit Union in July 2018, and appointed to the Board in 2019 for a three-year term. Roland currently is the Assistant Treasurer and serves on the Asset Liability Management and Audit Committees of the CCU BOD. Roland brings to the Board a strong background and experience in financial application systems and IT solutions. He has a B.S., degree in Business Administration from Colorado State University.
Roland started his career in Information Systems (IS) with Bendix Corporation, a prime contractor for the Atomic Energy Commission in Kansas City as a Programmer Analyst and then moved back to Colorado to work for Blue Cross and Blue Shield for five years as a Programmer Analyst and Manager in IS. Roland held various IT related positions with JM for over 25 years, including Senior Programmer/Analyst, Project Leader and Application System Architect and Manager IS. He also worked for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden for 8 years as an Application Analyst and Manager of Business Systems.
Roland participates in a number of volunteer opportunities including his Home Owners Association Board, Church Safe Sanctuary member and Food Pantry volunteer. Roland enjoys golf and is a golf marshal at a local public golf course and likes to bike and to go to the gym. He also enjoys spending time with his grand kids and attending their many outdoor activities.
Laura DalPiaz
Laura DalPiaz is a long-time Colorado Credit Union member whose relationship with CCU began in 1986. A Colorado resident since childhood, she brings a deep appreciation for CCU’s mission, values, and commitment to its members and community.
Laura offers more than 25 years of senior leadership experience in governance, fiduciary oversight, financial stewardship, and regulatory compliance across highly regulated industries. Early in her career at the Federal Reserve Bank, she conducted consumer protection examinations and strengthened financial controls—experience that closely aligns with the fiduciary responsibilities of credit union board service.
As a senior leader at Cigna Healthcare, Laura has held managing director and senior director roles overseeing enterprise technology strategy, governance forums, policy evaluation, risk management, and multi-million-dollar budgets. Her work reflects a strong focus on strategic planning, regulatory compliance, and responsible oversight in complex environments.
Laura’s professional values—ethical leadership, transparency, operational excellence, and customer focus—align closely with CCU’s member-owned philosophy. She brings strong financial literacy, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach to decision-making.
Laura holds a Master of Science in Finance from the University of Colorado and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Colorado State University. Outside of work, she enjoys travel and Colorado’s outdoor lifestyle. She is honored to be considered for service on the CCU Board of Directors and is committed to supporting the credit union’s continued strength, stability and service to its members and community.
Ray Goodwin
My family has lived in Ken Caryl since 1983. As both an Attorney and formerly licensed CPA, I bring a strong background in financial, tax, and business matters to our board. As a Partner at Reha Goodwin Caras LLP, I work with individuals and small business owners on business transactions, real estate, taxes, estate planning, and probate—areas that require sound financial judgment and long-term planning. I became a CPA in 1982 and joined the Colorado Bar in 1985.
I have served on the CCU Board since 2008, including more than five years as Vice Chairman. I care deeply about the financial well-being of our members and the role our credit union plays in strengthening their financial futures. I helped establish the nonprofit foundation the credit union uses to teach financial responsibility; an effort I believe is essential to our mission.
As the credit union grows, I focus on how each policy affects members—ensuring affordability, access, convenience, financial education, and strong fraud protections—while staying aligned with our cooperative purpose and supported by sound financial and risk management.
Looking ahead, my goal is to ensure our decisions deliver lasting value for all members, including first-time borrowers, families, and small business owners, and to expand the services and financial education resources that help members build stability, confidence, and opportunity.
Jeff Hager
A member of Colorado Credit Union since 1977, Jeff joined the Board of Directors in 2017 and has served as Chairman since 2019. He has a BS in Chemistry from Colorado State University and an MBA from the University of Colorado. With a longstanding interest in operations management and finance, his career has included various leadership positions in technology professional services, media, telecommunications, logistics and manufacturing. Over his 40-year career, Jeff worked at Johns Manville, Hewlett Packard and Charter Communications. Now retired, Jeff and his wife, Karen, live in the Aurora area.
Jason McCauley
Jason was appointed to the CCU Board of Directors as an Associate Board member in July 2019 and appointed to the CCU BOD in April 2020. He is a member of the Asset Liability and the Recruitment Committees of the CCU Board of Directors. Jason has a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Missouri – Columbia and an MBA from Webster University. His career includes various business development and leadership positions where he most recently served as the Director of Business Development for Frontdoor, Inc.
He has a passion for leading organizations and helping them achieve new heights while delivering the best customer experience possible, which led him to start his own business in 2019. He has lived in Ken Caryl since 2014 and enjoys skiing and other outdoor activities with his wife Becca and two children Cameron and Alexa.
Kathy Sorensen
Kathy has served on the Colorado Credit Union Board of Directors since her appointment in 2013 and has been elected in subsequent terms in 2015, 2018, 2021, and 2024. During her tenure, she has held several leadership roles, including Chair of the Credit Committee and Chair of the Recruitment/Nomination Committee. She currently serves as Chair of the HR Committee and as Assistant Secretary of the Board.
A Charter Member of Colorado Credit Union, originally the Johns Manville Credit Union, Kathy’s connection to CCU dates to its founding, when her father, one of the Credit Union’s original charter members, opened accounts for her and her siblings.
Kathy has worked at Johns Manville for over 47 years and currently serves as Executive Office Manager, reporting directly to the CEO and President.
She has two grown sons who have been CCU members since early childhood, and she enjoys traveling and
spending time with her family, including her two grandchildren.
Greg Viergutz
Greg has been the Chairman of Colorado Credit Union’s Supervisory Committee since January 2015. Greg received his degree in accounting from the University of Wisconsin. Greg has more than 40 years of audit and accounting experience, both in public accounting and private industry.
Greg is the founder and managing shareholder of Marc, James and Associates, PC, a Highlands Ranch based certified public accounting firm. Prior to forming Marc, James and Associates, PC, Greg was an Audit Manager with the Madison, Wisconsin, and Denver, Colorado offices of Grant Thornton, an international certified public accounting firm, and a member of that firm’s quality assurance department for five years.
While with Grant Thornton, Greg specialized in providing accounting and tax services to the automotive and power sports dealership industry. While in Madison, Greg also served as the Chief Financial Officer of CUNA Mortgage Corporation. As well as holding the CPA designation, Greg is a Certified Cash Manager, a designation obtained by many individuals employed in the Treasury Management area of larger banks. Greg and his wife, Patricia, have two grown children and live in the southeast Aurora area.
Mariette van Engelen
Mariette’s dedication to Credit Union principles has been unwavering. She has been a proud member, first of White Crown FCU, then, post-merger, of Colorado Credit Union.
Mariette deepened her involvement by serving on both the Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee, prioritizing strategic guidance and member value.
Currently, she remains an active Colorado Credit Union Board Member, working to secure a prosperous future for our community. During her career as an accomplished leader in Facilities, Communications and Office Management at The Anschutz Corporation, Mariette specialized in transforming operational frameworks into strategic assets. She has extensive expertise across facility and project management and delivered robust solutions. Her core strengths include exemplary financial stewardship, cultivating high-performing teams, and orchestrating comprehensive office operations. Mariette excelled in leveraging strategic vendor relationships for efficiency and significant cost savings. Her tenure at Anschutz included managing their corporate headquarters in Denver and numerous affiliated entities across the United States.
A distinctive facet of Mariette’s experience also includes direct immersion in Consular Affairs, at the Consulate of The Netherlands in Denver, where she meticulously planned and executed visits for high-ranking Dutch diplomatic personnel. This involved managing complex international protocols and culturally sensitive engagements in high-pressure settings with utmost discretion.
Leveraging deep tax expertise, Mariette currently guides diverse clients through complex fiscal challenges, delivering tailored strategies for optimal compliance, financial optimization, and complete peace of mind.
