Board of Directors

Sam Biegelsen

Sam, a Colorado CPA, was appointed to the Colorado Credit Union Board of Directors following the merger of the White Crown Federal Credit Union membership into CCU on October 1, 2022. As Chair of the White Crown Board of Directors, Sam led the board to identify and unanimously recommend CCU as the best strategic partner to collaborate and provide for the benefit of members, staff, and communities. Sam has been a credit union member since 1985, joining Denver Media Credit Union as a member of the Denver Post employee group.

Elected to the Denver Media board in 1994, Sam served as Treasurer until 2005 when Denver Media merged into White Crown, and he was elected to serve on the board.

Sam is a 1980 graduate of the University of Colorado with a degree from the Leeds College of Business and a degree from the College of Environmental Design. In 2018, after 25 years with local Boeing subsidiary, Jeppesen, he retired as a Sr. Business Development Executive to focus his CPA practice on consulting engagements and wealth strategies for private clients. Sam, a fourth generation descendent of Colorado pioneers, enjoys working out, traveling, and outdoor activities in our beautiful State.

 

Clint Blackhurst

Clint has served on the Board of Directors for Colorado Credit over 12 years (previously for the Brighton Federal Credit Union for six years). Clint is a member the CCU Audit Committee. Clint has a BA from Metro State University and a Master’s of Public Administration from the University of Colorado. He had a career of over 47 years in law enforcement, retiring in 2017 as the Chief of Police in Brighton.

He currently serves as a City Council person for the City of Brighton. Clint’s other volunteer activities are: President of his Home Owners Association, member of the Fulton Ditch Board of Directors, President of the Adams County E-911 Authority Board, served on the 27-J School District Blue Ribbon Advisory Committee, and has served on the Brighton Urban Renewal Authority Board. Clint enjoys golf, hunting and outdoor activity. He has lived in Brighton since 1985.


Tom Bush

Tom has been a Colorado Credit Union Board of Directors member for 13 years and currently serves as the Board Secretary. Tom is also a member of the CCU Audit Committee. He has a BA degree from the University of Alabama and a master’s degree in management from the University of Northern Colorado. Tom served 30 years in the Air Force and is a retired pilot from United Airlines. Currently he is a small business owner of a specialty retail store in Littleton and Boulder.

Tom also serves as the President of the Captain Jason Dahl Scholarship Fund, a non-profit foundation that raises money for students seeking a career in aviation. His volunteer duties with the Dahl Fund include participating in the Heartland Hero Program where fifth grade students write essays about a person who has made a positive influence in their lives. Tom enjoys spending time with family, hiking, skiing, and birding. He has lived in the Denver area since 1995.


Roland Carrillo

Roland was appointed as an Associate Board member for Colorado Credit Union in July 2018, and appointed to the Board in 2019 for a three-year term. Roland currently is the Assistant Treasurer and serves on the Asset Liability Management and Audit Committees of the CCU BOD. Roland brings to the Board a strong background and experience in financial application systems and IT solutions. He has a B.S., degree in Business Administration from Colorado State University.

Roland started his career in Information Systems (IS) with Bendix Corporation, a prime contractor for the Atomic Energy Commission in Kansas City as a Programmer Analyst and then moved back to Colorado to work for Blue Cross and Blue Shield for five years as a Programmer Analyst and Manager in IS. Roland held various IT related positions with JM for over 25 years, including Senior Programmer/Analyst, Project Leader and Application System Architect and Manager IS. He also worked for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden for 8 years as an Application Analyst and Manager of Business Systems.

Roland participates in a number of volunteer opportunities including his Home Owners Association Board, Church Safe Sanctuary member and Food Pantry volunteer. Roland enjoys golf and is a golf marshal at a local public golf course and likes to bike and to go to the gym. He also enjoys spending time with his grand kids and attending their many outdoor activities. 


Ray Goodwin

Ray Goodwin was appointed to the Board of Colorado Credit Union in April 2008 and is currently serving as the Vice Chairman. He is also a member of Colorado Credit Union’s HR Committee. Ray is an Attorney/Partner at Reha Goodwin Caras LLP, providing legal representation for individuals and owners of small closely held businesses related to business transactions, real estate, litigation, tax issues, trust administration, estate planning and probate.

Ray was admitted to the Colorado bar in 1985 and obtained his license as a Certified Public Accountant in 1982. Ray has lived in Ken-Caryl since 1983 and enjoys travelling with his wife Val and their children.


Jeff Hager

A member of Colorado Credit Union since 1977, Jeff joined the Board of Directors in 2017 and has served as Chairman since 2019. He has a BS in Chemistry from Colorado State University and an MBA from the University of Colorado.  With a longstanding interest in operations management and finance, his career has included various leadership positions in technology professional services, media, telecommunications, logistics and manufacturing. Over his 40-year career, Jeff worked at Johns Manville, Hewlett Packard and Charter Communications. Now retired, Jeff and his wife, Karen, live in the Aurora area.


Jason McCauley

Jason was appointed to the CCU Board of Directors as an Associate Board member in July 2019, and appointed to the CCU BOD in April 2020. He is a member of the Asset Liability and the Recruitment Committees of the CCU Board of Directors. Jason has a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Missouri – Columbia and an MBA from Webster University.  His career includes various business development and leadership positions where he most recently served as the Director of Business Development for Frontdoor, Inc.

He has a passion for leading organizations and helping them achieve new heights while delivering the best customer experience possible, which led him to start his own business in 2019. He has lived in Ken Caryl since 2014 and enjoys skiing and other outdoor activities with his wife Becca and two children Cameron and Alexa. 


Paul Patricca

Paul Patricca was appointed to the Board of Colorado Credit Union in April 2008, after serving as the Supervisory Committee Chairman for the credit union. He currently holds the Board Officer position of Treasurer and is the Chair of the Asset Liability Management Committee. After 38 years, Paul retired from Johns Manville as a Sr. Cost Analyst.


Kathy Sorensen

Kathy Sorensen was appointed to the Board of the Colorado Credit Union in September 2013, and then was re-elected in 2015 and 2018 for an additional three-year terms. She has served as the CCU Credit Committee Chair and currently serves as the Recruitment/Nomination Committee Chair, and is a member of the HR Committee, and holds the BOD Officer position of Assistant Secretary of the CCU Board.

Kathy has worked for Johns Manville for over 42 years and is currently the Executive Office Manager reporting to the CEO.  Kathy is married with two grown sons. Her favorite thing to do is spend time with her two grandchildren, ages 5 and 8. 


Greg Viergutz

Greg has been the Chairman of Colorado Credit Union’s Supervisory Committee since January 2015.  Greg received his degree in accounting from the University of Wisconsin. Greg has more than 40 years of audit and accounting experience, both in public accounting and private industry.

Greg is the founder and managing shareholder of Marc, James and Associates, PC, a Highlands Ranch based certified public accounting firm.  Prior to forming Marc, James and Associates, PC, Greg was an Audit Manager with the Madison, Wisconsin, and Denver, Colorado offices of Grant Thornton, an international certified public accounting firm, and a member of that firm’s quality assurance department for five years.

While with Grant Thornton, Greg specialized in providing accounting and tax services to the automotive and power sports dealership industry. While in Madison, Greg also served as the Chief Financial Officer of CUNA Mortgage Corporation.  As well as holding the CPA designation, Greg is a Certified Cash Manager, a designation obtained by many individuals employed in the Treasury Management area of larger banks. Greg and his wife, Patricia, have two grown children and live in the southeast Aurora area.

 

Mariette van Engelen

Mariette was appointed to the Colorado Credit Union Board of Directors following the merger of the White Crown Federal Credit Union membership into CCU on October 1, 2022. Mariette has been a longtime White Crown member, serving on both the Supervisory Committee and the Board of Directors for many years. She values the principles of credit unions and is excited to work with other members in making Colorado Credit Union the best financial institution possible.

Born and educated in Europe, Mariette moved to the Unites States where she gained ample experience in facilities, communications, and office and events management, working for The Anschutz Corporation. She served as Assistant Consul to the Kingdom of The Netherlands for over ten years. While continuing her work in office management, Mariette also teaches the Dutch language and is a Tax Specialist for H&R Block. She is eager to apply her expertise and energy in serving the Colorado Credit Union membership for three more years.
