Brian Kenshalo, Chatfield High Varsity Basketball Captain

Colorado Credit Union

Brian Kenshalo

Brian Kenshalo is a 17 year old senior at Chatfield High School.  Brian has played basketball since he was four years old.  The highlight of his high school years and especially his senior year has been his involvement with the Chatfield basketball program.  Brian served as Captain of the team during his sophomore year and during the past season which expanded his leadership skills in various ways.  “One of the biggest challenges as team captain and leader of the team was to keep the team pumped up when we got behind or things didn’t go the way we planned”, Brian said.  I lead by example and we never gave up.  Sometimes it was our creativity on the court that kept us in the game.  The team’s intense focus and dedication took them to the Sweet Sixteen at the World Arena in Colorado Springs.  “I don’t think anyone on the team will ever forget that experience – it is an awesome memory for all of us.”   #22 will always hold a special place in the hearts of the Kenshalo family.  I learned that no matter how tough life gets, I can’t give up and my success means keeping my eye on the end result and my goals in life.

Brian’s awards this year included Colorado All State Boy’s Basketball Honorable Mention, Jefferson County 1st Team All Conference and after writing an essay and panel interview, he recently won a scholarship from the Slam Dunk Booster Club at Chatfield High School.  In past years Brian was awarded Jefferson County 2nd Team All Conference (Junior Year) and Jefferson County All Conference Honorable Mention (Sophomore year).  Brian also participated in Chatfield baseball as catcher and pitcher during his freshman, sophomore and junior years.  In addition to his academic and athletic achievements, Brian has worked on various landscaping jobs and his community activities include participation in elementary school reading rallies to help young students learn to read and working in a local homeless shelter soup kitchen.

Brian’s future plans include attending Mesa State College where he plans to study Business Administration (marketing) and Kinesiology.  He also has interest in Journalism and will play on the Men’s basketball team.  He also hopes to become a Men’s basketball coach to help teach other students learn the game he loves.

Brian’s recent focus has been specifically on his financial goals in applying for college scholarships, financial aid and finding a job for the summer to enable him to save for his college tuition and expenses.  He has worked with Colorado Credit Union Financial planners to learn more about planning and saving for his future and what tools the Credit Union offers young students to help them achieve their goals and financial ambitions in life.  Brian realizes he still has much to learn, but particularly appreciates knowing he has connections through his membership with the Colorado Credit Union to help in organizing, planning and achieving his future personal financial goals.
